FP offers professionally taught classes in Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet, Lyrical, Tap, Contemporary, and Acrobatics by some of the finest teachers Miami has to offer, as well advanced adult classes for those who still want to pursue their dance education past high school graduation. From age 3 to the professional, FP combines a fun learning environment with energetic instructors. We also keep class sizes to a minimum, guaranteeing individualized instruction and attention. Master classes and/or Catalyst classes taught by professional dance teachers and choreographers from around the country are also available every week. Realizing the growing potential of talent in Miami, and yet so few resources to filter them into the professional dance industry, FP brings a fresh new edge to the dance studio concept – training young dancers and providing them with the opportunity to work in the professional environment such as TV, film, and shows. Working with networks such as MTV, BET, Univision, and Telemundo, as well as music recording companies like Universal, EMI, BMI, and Sony, Focal Point conjoins the dance world with the music and commercial industry. You’ve seen our teachers share the stage with Chris Brown, Missy Elliott, Britney Spears, Ciara, Thalia, Ricky Martin, Paulina Rubio, David Bisbal, Olga Tanon, Wisin Y Yandel, and many more. The professional industry is brought to our doorstep and to your dancer, everyday! Through dance, students at Focal Point learn discipline, good sportsmanship, physical fitness, and responsibility. Class Descriptions: Introduction to Dance...
Kinder Dance (ages 3-5)
These classes are age specific and are designed to develop basic motor skills and musicality, as well as encourage creative movement and expression. All aspects of training are explored; development of balance, turning, jumping, positions of the feet, classroom behavior and etiquette.
Primary (ages 6-9)
These classes offer a more focused study of ballet and tap, and begin to explore elements of jazz. Training centers around building posture and grace as well body alignment. Teachers introduce basic terminology and traditional barre and centre work for tap and ballet.
Intermediates (Ages 9-13) ; Teens (Ages 14-18)
Ballet
Classes include traditional barre, centre work, and focuses on building strong technique. Teachers emphasize body alignment, posture, flexibility, muscle memory and control.
Jazz
These classes build off of the basics of Ballet (balance, flexibility, and control), yet are faster paced. It offers a wide variety of musical accompaniment and promotes individual expression.
Beginner through advanced classes includes both barre and centre work emphasizing musicality and coordination. Technique in both Broadway and Rhythm styles is taught through exercises, drills, and combinations.
Lyrical classes combine the strength and passion of Jazz with the grace and fluidity of Ballet. It emphasizes the performance and storytelling aspect of dance. (Ballet and Jazz are pre-requisites for lyrical classes.)
Hip Hop classes develop strength and stamina along with muscle memory. The classes are fast paced and energetic with new combinations every week. No previous dance training is needed.
Contemporary classes are a mixture of Lyrical and Jazz. It consists of modern technique and movement utilizing a wide range of music.
